Group 1 is for Class 1 gazetted officer posts (e.g., Deputy Collector, DSP) requiring a degree, a Preliminary + Mains + Interview process, and is the most competitive. Group 2 is for Class 2 posts (e.g., Junior Employment Officer, Assistant Section Officer) with Prelims + Mains but no interview for most posts. Group 4 is for clerical and lower-division posts requiring only SSLC (10th pass) and a single objective paper.

Yes. TNPSC question papers are available in both Tamil and English for most papers. However, some technical papers may only be in English. Tamil proficiency is tested in all groups, and Group 4 has a dedicated Tamil Language section. Candidates with Tamil medium school background often find TNPSC exams accessible.

The general age limit is 21 to 32 years for Group 1. SC/ST candidates get a relaxation of 5 years (up to 37). Differently-abled candidates can apply up to 42 years. MBC candidates get 3 years relaxation. For government employees, the limit extends to 40 years. Age is calculated as of the notification date.

TNPSC does not officially restrict the number of attempts as long as the candidate is within the age limit. You can apply for each notification as many times as you qualify by age. However, each group's notification is separate and candidates must re-apply each time.

Start with NCERT textbooks for Science, History, Geography, and Economics (Classes 6–12). For Tamil Nadu-specific content, the TNPSC-prescribed textbooks from Samacheer Kalvi syllabus are essential. Solve past 10 years' question papers, focus on current affairs (especially Tamil Nadu events), and practice aptitude questions daily. Cover TN history, Sangam literature, and state government schemes separately.

As of recent exam cycles, TNPSC objective papers do not have negative marking for wrong answers. This means you should attempt all questions. However, always verify the negative marking rule in the official notification for each specific recruitment cycle, as it can vary.
